Friend

You arrived into my life

by chance ,

just when I needed

a shoulder to lean on

Be brave enough to

step outside and breathe –

breathe anew again

You took me places

where I used to walk

in my younger days

Between unfurling fronds

under a canopy of gum trees ,

where filtered light and mist

offers natures nourishment

To colourful market

swimming in aromas of

fresh baked bread

apricot loaves ,

rackety human voices

We shared a meal

next to a glowing fireplace ,

shielded from icy winter wind

And sometimes under the clouds

the spirits of the sky

we sat in your garden

Exchanged the latest news

Laughed in face of fear

Listened to birds calling ,

surge of flowing creek

rushing into distance

We read simple verses , reflecting

on life’s darkness and light

Grateful I am ,

for ripples of laughter ,

brightest moments

you have brought my way

So – from my most inner core ,

humble behalf

fortunate to have met you

in this lifetime –

You warm generous heart
